How to look after your skin inside & out

When it comes to looking after your skin & body, theres a lot to be said for a healthy lifestyle; eating well, sleeping well, drinking enough water, & getting enough vitamins ...

But, there are a lot of things you can do on the outside which is proven to help promote healthy looking skin.

Cleansing & Exfoliating your skin is one of the most essential steps to keeping your skin looking younger, not only by removing impurities, but by helping stimulate cell regeneration. Skin is left smooth on the surface, it's less prone to residue build up (which causes blemishes), and promotes new skin to regenerate faster. Cleansing, by the form of a gel or micelle water should be at least morning and night, (or more after exercise or exposure to oil/ pollution). Exfoliating should be 2-3 times per week.

There are so many exfoliating products out there, bead exfoliators are better for sensitive skin and salts are harsher and more useful for the body rather than face. There are also exfoliating tools & technology which can be used with your normal cleansers. This is the approach I tend to personally use as I have certain cleansers which work well for my skin.

Toners are a stronger version of cleansing, removing even more impurities & makeup that sometimes basic soaps and cleansers don't remove. For acne prone skin, this is a good option for deep cleansing. Toners then tighten the pores, making the skin appear smoother and difficult for dirt to penetrate back in.

Hydrating the skin after this deep cleansing process is essential for keeping the skin soft and providing it protection from ageing.

Hydrating serums, often contain ingredients you may have heard like Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is popular for its use in lip fillers, its naturally produced in the body and naturally broken down by the body - as we age its broken down at a quicker rate. HA within hydrating serums are used to hold water content, which plumps up and replenishes water in our skin cells. HA is often sold with Vitamin C as it helps the skin absorb it better.  HA is the key to flawless and hydrated skin. Supplements can also help to restore the amount of it in our body.

Moisterisers, however, act as a barrier on the skins surface to reduce moisture loss. That way it protects the skin and is a good base for makeup.

Repair serum targeted at damaged skin

Our skin is exposed to damage on a daily basis, whether that be pollution, the sun or even simply just tiredness. That is why it is best to protect our skin as much as possible now, to delay the signs of ageing.  This little product is a repairing treatment, specifically targeting damage from chlorinated water, extreme climates and sunburn so it is extra nourishing and hydrating. This is a must-have! I'm religiously using this every other day, by mixing a couple of drops into my usual moisturiser. Do not use it on its own or directly on the skin - it must be mixed with a product as its that concentrated! But the nice thing is, it leaves your skin feeling so smooth and after a few uses I could actually tell my skin was in much better condition - 'repaired' as such. I've taken it on two holidays now, and I mix 2 drops into my Face SPF 50 - that way my face is protected all day, looks glowing and even better looks less white from the SPF! Its the perfect combo!

Elemis Superfood Anti-Age Facial Oil

The new Superfood Skincare System

Formulated with plant based nutrient-dense Superfoods, this little gem is made to nourish and hydrate the skin whilst leaving it with a fresh glow. It's packed with anti-oxidants that protect the skin from ageing and free-radical damage, which made this product perfect to take on holiday as my skin definitely needed daily replenishment after lots of sun exposure! This product can be used daily, or every few days as a repairing treatment. But since I was out in the sun all day, everyday,  I wanted to ensure I was protected throughout. I placed a couple of drops on freshly cleansed skin, before applying moisturiser & SPF - then if you want, you can follow with your usual makeup. The oily texture leaves a soft residue so its quite good for smoothing out foundation and acting as a primer too! I then used it again at night to help  my skin restore during my sleep. Result: detoxed skin throughout my holiday.

Nip & Fab - Dragons Blood Plump serum

Hydrating skin products are the absolute essential to achieving healthier skin. Hydration serums plump up skin cells and protects them from ageing whilst helping them to retain water naturally. I love this product because it contains the KEY ingredient; hyaluronic acid! Its light formula, absorbs well into the skin so doesn't leave it feeling greasy at all and instead just plumped. It also contains Croton Lechleri tree, which is known as the 'second skin' protective shield.
