Smokey Eyes

Start Light

Start off by applying a light shade eyeshadow over the entire lid, using either a large shader or fluff brush. For long lasting colour, apply an eye primer first – I recommend MAC: Prep & Prime 24 hour Extend eye base its also crease and fade proof. This will allow the eyeshadow to set and provide a better build for the darker shades. Extend the light eyeshadow all the way to the inner corners of the eye, this will brighten and makes the eyes appear bigger. (At the end you can apply a tiny bit of highlighter in the inner corner for extra 'pop.')

Build the Intensity

Starting at the top outer corners of the eye, start applying medium shade from along the bottom eyelid up into the crease. For a more sultry look, build up more the outer eye crease and work out to the ends of the eye working parallel to your eyebrow shape. You can use a medium angled shading brush to get right into the crease, particularly working darker right into the crease to build the round eye socket - then blend up and out.

With the bottom lash line, start from the outer eye in. Building gently a thickness and darkness that could look like your eyelashes shadow. You do not have to go all the way along to the inner eye – maybe half way is enough - depending on preference.

Tip: When applying, step back away from the mirror to check your whole face, ensuring that you are applying where you want it in reference to your face shape  - Its easy to get carried away apply to much, everywhere!

Work the Smoke

Using your darkest select shade, build up the intensity even darker blending from the liner to the crease. You want to ensure your eyeshadow is pigmented, to ensure better quality and a rich smokey eye. Once you have applied enough, use a blending eye brush to ensure smooth blending around the eyes working up a seamless gradient from dark to light.

Finishing Touches

Apply a tiny bit of highlighter to the inner corner of the eye and small dash on the roundest part of the eyelid – this will make your eyes bigger and add extra sparkle! Define your eyebrows and apply a light shade eyeshadow underneath your eyebrow line for extra sharp precision – blend down and out towards your smokey eye. Finish by applying highlighter just underneath your eyebrow arch.

Line Dark

Using either an eye pencil or gel eyeliner using a small angled brush, line along the upper lash line. Ensure the pencil is sharpened for precision, or that the brush used for the eyeliner is fine with a sharp, strong tip. Depending on your eye shape, its not necessary to apply along the whole length of the eye – for smaller eyes you can apply liner to the outer eye and maybe a very small/ thin amount towards the inner eye. Key – build up a thin to a thicker line – working outwads. You may if you want, extend the eye line beyond the outer eye for a 'cat-eye' or just to make your eyes appear bigger – but this can also depend on eye shapes.

When lining the bottom lashes, again start from the outer in. Building up slowly to the desired depth. You may want to apply on the inner eyelid – this makes it extra smokey.
